NFL & NCAA Playoff Bracket Pool Rules

Quick summary: You pick winners through the championship game. You earn points for correct picks (often worth more in later rounds). Some leagues also award bonus points for underdogs and/or use reseeding after certain rounds—your league manager controls these options.

1) Making Picks

  1. Pick every game through the championship. Before the playoffs begin, each player submits a full bracket by selecting the winner of each matchup through the final game.
  2. Round-by-round scoring. Points are awarded for each correct pick. Your league manager can set different point values per round (for example: Wild Card/First Round vs. Divisional/Quarterfinals vs. Championship).
  3. Optional: underdog bonus. Some leagues award bonus points for correctly picking underdogs. If enabled, the bracket will show how underdog points work for your league.
  4. NFL/NCAA seeding notes. Matchups and seeds come from the official playoff bracket for that sport and season. If the league uses reseeding (see below), later-round matchups may update as teams advance.

2) Deadlines & Editing

  1. Submit by the league deadline. Your bracket must be submitted before the deadline set by the league manager (typically before the first playoff game begins).
  2. Edits allowed only before lock. You can change your bracket as long as: (a) the league deadline has not passed, and (b) the playoff tournament has not begun (or your manager has not locked picks).
  3. Late entries. If the league is configured to allow late entries, any games that have already started (or are final) will typically be locked and/or scored as missed picks. (Exact behavior may vary by league settings.)

3) Reseeding (If Enabled)

Some playoff formats reseed after a round (for example, the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed). If your league enables reseeding, OfficePoolStop will update later-round matchups as winners advance. Your previously-selected picks will follow the team you picked forward in the bracket.

Note: If reseeding is enabled, you may see the next-round opponent change as results come in—this is expected behavior.

4) Scoring & Standings

  1. Correct picks earn points. Standings are based on total points earned across the entire playoff bracket.
  2. Later rounds are often worth more. Many leagues increase point values each round, rewarding deep-run accuracy (manager-controlled).
  3. Bonus points (optional). If your league uses underdog bonuses (or other configured bonuses), they are added to your total points.

Tie-Breakers

Final Standings (Total Points)

  1. Primary tie-breaker: The league’s configured tie-breaker (set by your manager).
  2. Overall winning percentage (correct picks Ă· total picks).
  3. Strength of Victory (SoV) (if used by your league). SoV is the cumulative margin of victory for games you picked correctly, minus the margin for games you picked incorrectly. For example: if your picked team wins by 9, add 9; if your picked team loses by 12, subtract 12.

League managers can customize scoring, reseeding behavior, underdog bonuses, and tie-breakers. If something looks different in your league, check the league settings or ask your manager.
